PFA Canada on Launch of the Northern Super League

With the Northern Super League (NSL) set to commence its inaugural season on April 16, 2025, PFA Canada extends its sincere congratulations to all involved in establishing Canada’s first FIFA-sanctioned women’s topflight competition. 

 

For us, the arrival of the NSL marks a significant, positive, and necessary milestone in Canadian football. While Canada Soccer and a growing Canadian Premier League seek to advance the women’s game through national and provincial/territorial programming and League 1 Canada, we’re grateful the NSL has emerged to ensure all Canadian footballers are afforded the same opportunity as our members to play professionally at home. 

 

As one of 65 FIFPro-affiliated player associations representing 70,000 players – women and men – throughout the global football industry, PFA Canada views the launch of the NSL as a tribute to the tenacity and resilience of everyone working in women’s football. Here in Canada and elsewhere, PFA Canada remains firmly committed to gender equity in sport and stands ready to support industry stakeholders seeking the same.
